Islamabad: Undeterred by the threats from Pakistan-based several terrorists groups, including JuD and Syed Salahuddin’s Hizbul Mujahideen, Home Minister Rajnath today arrived here, to attend the two-day SAARC Conference. Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi has already reached here yesterday to do some preparatory work for the Home Minister's intervention in the meet.

This is the first visit of any Minister, since the terror attack on Pathankot airbase. Mr Singh is expected to raise the issue of across border terrorism, fake currency and drug trafficking during the regional meet. Although the Ministry of External Affairs ruled out bilateral talks between the two countries, the Home Minister is expected to raise the issue of Pathankot attack with his counterpart during any informal interaction that he might have on the sidelines of the conference. Meanwhile, there were protests at several places in the city, ahead of Mr Singh's arrival.

On the threats against Mr Singh's visit, Director General, Border Security Force K K Sharma yesterday said in New Delhi that he was sure that Pak Rangers will take sufficient measures to ensure that terror mastermind Hafiz Sayeed did not succeed in his plans. He said the border security forces on both the sides had been sensitised at Wagah Border. "This is the internal matter of Pakistan and I am very sure that my counterparts Pak Rangers are more than competent to handle this issue. I am sure Saeed's threat is not going to disrupt the SAARC meeting," said Mr Sharma.
