Hyderabad: In a rare honour, the historical Ramappa temple of Palampta in Mulugu district of Telangana has been accorded the World Heritage site status by UNESCO on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet said ''Excellent! Congratulations to everyone, specially the people of Telangana.
The iconic Ramappa Temple showcases the outstanding craftsmanship of great Kakatiya dynasty. I would urge you all to visit this majestic Temple complex and get a first-hand experience of it's grandness'', Mr Modi said.
In a tweet, the organisation said, "just inscribed as @ UNESCO # world site: Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) temple in Telangana, India. Bravo".
An UNESCO team had visited the temple in 2019 and selected the temple after examining 42 heritage structures the world over.
The Ramappa temple constructed in 1213 BC is the first heritage structure in the Telugu state to get such recognition.
Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy taking to twitter said ''I congratulate the entire team of @ASI GoI for their untiring efforts towards making the Ramappa Temple a World Heritage Site.
I would also like to thank the Ministry of External Affairs for their efforts under the guidance of Hon'ble PM @narendramodi.
He said It gives me immense pleasure to share that @UNESCO has conferred the World Heritage tag to Ramappa Temple at Palampet, Warangal, Telangana.
On behalf of the nation, particularly from people of Telangana, I express my gratitude to Hon PM @narendramodi for his guidance & support, Mr Reddy said.
The Minister informed that owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) of UNESCO could not be conducted in 2020 and the nominations for 2020 and those for 2021 were discussed in a series of online meetings that are currently underway. The discussion on Ramappa Temple took place today.
He stated that there were 21 Members in the World Heritage Committee with China currently as the Chair of the Committee and credited the goodwill that Mr Modi built with UNESCO member countries during his tenure. (UNI) ...!
