New Delhi: A day after the Delhi Commission for Women forwarded a complaint of Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur on alleged rape threat, Delhi police today filed an FIR in connection with the incident. "Yesterday, DCW forwarded a complaint of a DU student regarding online abuse. Immediately, area DCP spoke to her and provided necessary security," Delhi police tweeted. In another tweet, it said, "Her complaint was examined by Cyber Cell and an FIR No 32/17, u/s 354-A,506 IPC & 67 IT Act,PS EOW has been registered & investigation taken up." "Thank @DelhiPolice for taking urgent action.
Hope accused will be arrested soon. That will strongly deter online abusers," DCW chief Swati Maliwal tweeted. Earlier this morning, the Kargil martyr's daughter said she was withdrawing from the campaign. In a series of tweets, Gurmehar requested to be left alone. 'I have been through a lot and this is all my 20-year self could take. I'm withdrawing from the campaign. Congratulations everyone. I request to be left alone. I said what I had to say,' Gurmehar said in a tweet. She called on students to join the peace march being organised by the AISA and NSUI in the North campus today. The genesis of the entire incident was the invitation of two JNU leaders to speak at a seminar in the college, which was called off after ABVP's protest last week. (UNI)
