RIP Jayalalithaa: TN announces 7-day mourning, public holiday today, schools, colleges closed for 3 days

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government announced a seven day mourning from today, besides declaring a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and closure of all schools and colleges for three days as a mark of respect to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away here late last night. A Government Order issued early this morning said the national flag would fly at half mast in all government institutions during the period of mourning.
 

Another GO announced a holiday for all its offices under the Negotiable Instruments Act and said the notified public holiday would apply to all state government offices, undertakings, corporations and boards.

The GO said the day would also be treated as a paid holiday for all industrial employees on regular work charge and industrial establishments and the labour hired on daily wages. Another GO declared a holiday for all educational institutions from today as a mark of respect to the late leader. (UNI)
