He also praised the BJP led governments in different states for creating a positive atmosphere of hope in the country. He also targeted opposition parties for "undue criticism of the government". Government should protect genuine Gau Sevak

The RSS today condemned cow vigilantes who create tension in society by unfounded rumor about cow slaughter to serve their political and personal ends, and called for distinguishing them from genuine ‘gau sevak’. The issue recently sparked a great controversy, especially in the wake of Una Dalit flogging incidents after which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to break his silence by his very scathing comments against cow vigilantes, saying they were indulging in criminal acts in the garb of cow protection, warning them of strict action.

He had said he felt great anger at such 'anti-social' elements who committed crime by the night and masqueraded as cow protectors by the day. In his annual address on the RSS foundation day at Nagpur, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat today devoted a fair part of speech to the matter. He stressed the need of carrying on the work of cow protection within the framework of the Constitution and law. The Sangh chief also said some sections of the media were blowing such incidents out of proportion for commercial gains. Mr Bhagwat said, though cow slaughter was prohibited by law, but sometimes in some places, the Gau sevaks have to do active campaigns to ensure proper implementation of such laws.

‘’But they cannot be compared with those undesirable elements, who raking up the issue of cow-slaughter or spreading unfounded rumors about cow-slaughter, are busy serving their narrow personal or political ends. He stressed that the administration, while ensuring that the laws for the prevention of cow slaughter were flawlessly implemented and general law and order was also strictly maintained, 'should not weigh the law-abiding citizens and anti-social elements on the same scale.’’ Mr Bhagwat called upon politicians who intervene in such matter to see to it that their thoughts, words and deeds are helpful in lessening the feeling of hatred and ill-will and this was what society expects of them.
