Sasikala accepts AIADMK General Secretary post : CM

Chennai: Ms V K Sasikala, close aide of former Chief Minister J Jayalalitahaa today accepted to lead the AIADMK by assuming the responsibility as the General Secretary of the party in line with the unanimous resolution adopted at the General Council meeting. This was disclosed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Treasurer O Panneerselvam after meeting Ms Sasikala at the Poes Garden residence, where he along with senior leaders, including Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai handed over the copies of the resolution adopted at the General Council meeting appointing her as the General Secretary.
 

Ms Sasikala, who was moved to tears while paying floral tributes to a portrait of Ms Jayalalithaa, has given her consent to take over as General Secretary of the party, Mr Panneerselvam told the media outside the Poes Garden residence. Earlier, the general council of the ruling AIADMK resolved to work under Ms Sasikala and appointed her as the general secretary of the party with until an election was held for the same as per the bylaws of the party. A resolution to this effect was proposed by 23 members, including Mr Panneerselvam and Thambidurai and seconded by more than 2,000 members of the General Council.

It said until the formal election process was completed, Ms Sasikala will hold all powers that come with the post "Till Ms Sasikala is elected under the party's by-law no.20, Sec 2, she has been unanimously appointed as General Secretary", it added. "Ms Sasikala will have all powers vested with the General Secretary", the resolution said. Meanwhile, speculations were rife that she might formally take over the mantle of the AIADMK on January two.
