SC asks Centre to make Yoga compulsory in school

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today asked the Union government to take a decision in connection with making yoga compulsory in schools for age group of 6 to 14. The plea was filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashwini Upadhyay, seeking to make yoga as compulsory for school students.
 

A bench, headed by Justice Madan B Lockur, was hearing the plea filed by Mr Upadhyay and another one of J C Seth. The top court asked the Central government to take a decision on the issue of yoga whether it wanted to make it compulsory or not. Mr Upadhyay also sought the intervention of the Apex Court and a direction from it to incorporate Yoga in the syllabus. (UNI)
