New Delhi: The Supreme Court today refused to lift the ban on selling and transportation of firecrackers in Delhi and NCR. "There would not be any sale and transportation of any kind of firecrackers in Delhi and NCR, till the next date of hearing." A two-judge Bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Madan B Lockur, said in its order today.

''We were not inclined to modify our earlier orders at this point in time,'' the Bench observed. The apex court passed the order after hearing from several fire crackers companies and the Central Government. Keeping in view the fact that the sale and use of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR had added to the level of pollution and thereby, it needed to be curbed, the apex court had said in its earlier order and stayed the sale and transportation of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR.
