New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking CBI probe into the March 10th incident during a poll campaign in Nandigram that resulted in a leg injury to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde asked the petitioners to approach the Calcutta High Court in this regard.

The Apex Court also granted liberty to approach the HC, whereupon the petitioners withdrew their plea.

The petitioners, three lawyers from Uttar Pradesh filed through counsel Vivek Narayan Sharma contended that that such incidents of election violence were leading to a sustained campaign against senior officers of the Election Commission.

The PIL also sought issuance of guidelines and directions for investigation of future similar incidents which affect the Electoral machinery.

It had claimed that the atmosphere in West Bengal has been filled with allegations and counter allegations by different political parties after the incident. (UNI)
