New Delhi: Supreme Court today issued notice to Election Commission after hearing a plea seeking a direction to the poll body over alleged tampering of EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) during the recent assembly elections in five states. A bench comprising Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and DY Chandrachud, issued the notice over the petition filed by lawyer ML Sharma.

The petitioner claimed that the recently concluded elections in the five states were rigged by tampered EVMs and these machines should be checked thoroughly. He further claimed that American computer scientists should investigate the alleged tampering of EVMs.

The Supreme Court, however, at this stage refused to pass any order. Mr Sharma claimed that EVMs could be tampered while ballot papers were tamper proof. The petitioner sought a direction to pass appropriate order on the issue. (UNI)
