SC orders 6-month jail to Justice Karnan

New Delhi: Biting the bullet in a bizarre incident of face-off in the higher judiciary, the Supreme Court today ordered to put forthwith Calcutta High Court Judge justice CS Karnan behind the bars for six months in a contempt case. This is the first contempt case, in which a judge of any High Court has got such a sentence.

A seven-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar said, "The sentence order shall be executed forthwith and he (Justice Karnan) be taken into custody." (UNI)
