New Delhi: Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation petition that sought directions to allow the supply of a herbal concoction medicine in Andhra Pradesh, which is claimed to "miraculously" cure COVID-19.

The petition was filed by a law student, who sought permission to re-start the supply of the herbal concoction made by Shri Bonigi Anandaiah from Krishnapatnam Town, Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh.

"What do you want? Go to the High Court. Don't take up time of court like this," a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana said while dismissing the plea.

According to the petitioner, the herbal concoction has exhibited miraculous results to numerous patients, including those with blood oxygen levels lesser than 90. It further read that there are presently about 4,000 people staying put in Nellore for the supply of the herbal medicine to be restarted so that they can avail the cure.

The plea also sought quashing of any criminal case registered against the medicine maker.

Earlier, the district administration too, had dismissed this request on the ground that there is no proven scientific evidence behind the claim. It also stated that Shri Bonigi Anandaiah is not a qualified practitioner. (UNI)
