SC rejects Asaram's bail plea, slams Bihar govt on Shahabuddin shift

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today refused to provide any relief to the controversial godman Asaram and dismissed his plea for an interim bail. A division bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri and Justice N V Ramanna, after hearing the plea of Asaram, who knocked the doors of the Supreme Court seeking bail on the ground that his health condition was not well and thereby should be released on interim bail.
 

The SC allowed him to be treated at Jodhpur's AIIMS hospital. The Supreme court had fixed November 21 as the next date of hearing in the case. Asaram is in jail for his alleged involvement in raping a minor girl. He is also an accused of raping two sisters in the state of Gujarat. On both the cases, Asaram moved SC seeking bail on health ground.

SC issues notices to Centre, Bihar Govt for shifting of Md Shahabuddin

The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre, Bihar Government and jailed former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin in a petition filed for his shifting from Siwan District Jail to the Tihar jail here. The order of the apex court division bench comprising Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Amitava Roy came in the petition from Asha Ranjan, the wife of of murdered journalist Rajdeo Ranjan and another petitioner Chandra Babu -- who have prayed before the court for transferring the controversial ex-MP who had represented Siwan seat in the Lower House for four terms.

The petitioners stated in the petition that on being kept in jail in his home district the RJD strongman with known criminal records could influence and terrorise witness in the case of scribe's killing. They also feared threat to the family members of Ranjan. The next date of hearing in the case has been fixed on November 28 and by the date -- the Union government, the Bihar government and Shahabuddin. (UNI)
