New Delhi: The Supreme Court today in its order removed the top official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anurag Thakur, along with the Secretary of the Board Ajay Shirke, from their posts. A bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur, passed the order and asked why a probe should not be initiated against Thakur for perjury and also sought a reply from him in this regard.

As per the July 18, 2016 order, these two officials had not complied with its order and had thereby, been removed from their posts. The SC said that BCCI and state board officials failed to implement its orders to bring transparency and accountability in the cricket body. The Supreme Court, meanwhile, appointed eminent jurist Fali S Nariman and senior Supreme Court lawyer Gopal Subramanian, as Amicus Curiae (friend of court) to appoint new BCCI officials. (UNI)
