SC to hear petitions over demonetisation on Dec 2

New Delhi:The Supreme Court today decided to hear all the petitions in connection with the issue of demonetisation, including the transfer plea filed by the Centre, on December 2. A bench of the apex Court, headed by Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur and also comprising Justice D Y Chandrachud, said "We will hear all the petitions on Friday next, December 2". Attorney General(AG), Mukul Rohatgi, told the bench that he had placed the affidavit on record in connection with the issue of demonetisation.
 

Mr Kapil Sibal, senior lawyer appearing for one of the petitioners, told the bench that people were starving in the streets. There was no cash at all with them..,..How you will deal with such kind of situation, Sibal wanted to know from the AG. To this, the CJI said "what was the position on the ground, you told us". Mr Manohar Lal Sharma, a petitioner and lawyer told the court that public were suffering everyday..,..No political leader was suffering due to demonetisation..,..

Mr Sharma said that the government should not have demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes and prayed before the court to pass appropriate order which the bench deemed fit for dealing with the present situation. Chief Justice Mr Thakur said, "What can be done let us see," and remarked that this was really a very serious matter..,..Now the Court would hear the matter on December 2 at 2 pm". (UNI)
