Srinagar: Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief Shabir Ahmad Shah was today arrested from Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. Mr Shah, General secretary of hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC), was scheduled to address his first public meeting at Tral, about 35 km from here this afternoon in the past about one year, a spokesperson for the DFP told UNI.

However, as soon as he reached Tral, alongwith some other senior leaders, Mr Shah was arrested by police, the spokesperson said. The DFP chief was arrested in February 2016 only and released in April. However, he was again arrested again in July when Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in Anantnag. Mr Shah was released and put under house arrest after several months. The spokesperson said Mr Shah was released only last Saturday from house arrest. (UNI)
