Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Thursday ended at a life time high of 54,843.98, surging 318.05 points on the strength of Utilities, Power, Capital Goods and IT stocks.
The Nifty rose by 82.15 points at 16,364.40.
Easing by 28 points on Wednesday, the Sensex moved up 116 points to open at 54,641.22. It remained in green throughout the session as it rallied 349 points to 54,874.10, the days high, before closing at 54,843.98, up by 318.05 points from its previous close.
The Sensex registered the days high and low at 54,874.10 and 54,536.65 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded the days high and low at 16,375.50 and 16,286.90 points respectively.
The sectoral indices like Utilities, Power, Industrials and IT stocks pushed the market up.
In scrips, Powergrid was a top gainer, up by 6.22 per cent to reach Rs 187.05 followed by Tech Mahindra by 4.82 per cent to reach Rs 1387.05, HCL Technology by 2.82 per cent to reach Rs 1097.05, Titan by 2.60 per cent to reach Rs 1836 and L& T by 2.33 per cent to reach Rs 1622.40.
The Mid Cap rose by 1.07 per cent and Small Cap by 1.97 per cent.
In 30 scrips, 21 advanced while 9 declined.
Asian Market was up as SGS Nikkei by 0.52 per cent, Straits Times by 0.09 per cent and Jakarta Composite by 0.84 per cent. (UNI)
