Hyderabad: The BJP on Sunday demanded an apology from Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar over his recent unwarranted remarks against most revered cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Mr Pawar should remind that every citizen has the right to express his or her views in the democracy and his remarks against Tendulkar was ‘unwarranted’ as he expressed his opinion on the ongoing farmers’ protest against the three farm laws, N V Subhash, Telangana BJP senior leader and grand son of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao said in a media statement here.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Sachin mentioned that “all Indians must stay united during the phase and reckoned sovereignty of the country cannot be compromised.”
“What wrong in it? Why should the NCP supremo react so harsh against these comments by Sachin,” Mr Subhash questioned.
The BJP leader alleged that Mr Pawar made remarks against former Indian cricketer by misusing his ‘seniority’ status as a politician.
When the debate was going on across social media platforms over the protests by farmers and many celebrities had expressed their views on the issue, how can to treat that comments only pro-protests would be made in social media?, he also questioned.
The Senior NCP leader lost control and advised Sachin Tendulkar asking him to refrain from speaking on such issues, he said such a senior leader shouldn’t have suppressed comments by celebrities.
Mr Subhash said Mr Pawar should withdraw his comments and apologize to Sachin.
Sachin was not only a learned cricketer but also a social activist and he has every right to react on the social issues, he said.
Mr Pawar should stop advising people and instead he could introspect about the farm laws and its benefits to the farming community without thinking on the political lines, he added. (UNI)
