New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said there has been a sharp decline in the numbers of terrorists and law and order problems in Jammu and Kashmir and northeastern states during the last two-and-a half years. He also lauded the unique gesture shown by Bollywood star Akshay Kumar for providing financial support to the families of the CRPF soldiers who were killed in Naxal ambush in Chhattisgarh on March 11.
Replying to the debate on Demands for Grants under the Control of Ministry of Home Affairs for 2017-18 in the Lok Sabha, Mr Singh said, 'in the insurgency-hit northeast, as compared to last 15 years, there has been a drop in incidents by about 75 per cent". On Jammu and Kashmir situation, he said as in July 2016 while there has been 820 terrorists and law and order related incidents, by December 2016 - it came down to 36. "And I am happy to share that this came down to mere 6 in January 2017," Mr Singh said.
Referring to the ambush at Sukhma in Chhattisgarh on March 11 wherein 12 CRPF personnel were killed, the Home Minister made a special mention of the Bollywood star's gesture shown to the families of the martyred soldiers. "Akshay Kumar has now committed to pay Rs 9 lakh compensation to the families of all those 12 CRPF personnel who were killed in the ambush," Mr Singh said. (UNI)
