Sangli: Nine members in a family committed mass suicide by consuming poisonous drug at Mhaishal village in Miraj tehsil of this district, police said.
The incident came to light Monday morning, as the deceased, Dr Manik Yallappa Vanmore, a veterinary doctor did not turn to his clinic, his employees came to his residence and found two families dead. Popat Vanmore (his brother) (teacher) and his family were also staying with the doctor.
Police rushed to the spot. Financial debt might be the reason behind the suicide, police added.
The deceased were identified as Dr Manik Yallappa Vanmore(49), Akkatai(72) (his mother), Rekha(45-wife), Asmita(28-daughter), Aditya (15-son) while four dead bodies found in Dr Manik's brother's nearby resident Popat Yallappa Vanmore (52-his brother), Archana(30 daughter), Sangeeta(48-wife), Shubham(28-son).
