Srinagar: Senior Congress leader and former minister Saifuddin Soz has written to Home Minister Amit Shah and pleaded to release three Kashmiri students who are lodged in Agra Jail facing charges of sedition. Three students Showkat Ahmad Ganai, Arsheed Yusuf and Inayat Altaf Sheikh are in Agra Jail for last over three months for allegedly cheering for Pakistan during the T20 World Cup match that India lost.
This week the Agra police filed a chargesheet in the case. The former Union minister Soz said he has shot a letter to the Home Minister pleading for the immediate release of three Kashmiri students. “I invited the attention of the Home Minister to the fact that till now, the police had not been able to prove that these three Kashmiri students had cheered for the Pakistani team.
Instead, it was found that they had conveyed a screenshot of greetings to their friends,” Soz said in a statement. “I pleaded with the Home Minister that our country's legal system would help these students to get released, finally. But, it would be more graceful to release them immediately,” he added.(UNI)
