Surprise inspection of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in Hamsafar Express

New Delhi: Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu today inspected the additional features added to the new rake of Humsafar Express at Safdarjung Railway Station. The Minister would flag-off two such trains tomorrow from Vijayawada. The special added features included single piece side lower berth, mobile charging point including USB charging point, reading light, better toilet facilities, dustbins, CCTV etc.
 

In addition to these, the existing features in the Hamsafar Express included CCTV surveillance of the common areas of the coaches, integrated braille displays for the visually impaired, Hygienic lavatories with odour flushing system. Also, GPS based Passenger information system, Passenger announcement system and fire and smoke detection system in the coaches have also been given in the train. It is planned to manufacture 10 Humsafar rakes during the current financial year at Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli and Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala.

The cost of a Humsafar AC 3 Tier coach Rs. 2.58 crores, as compared to Rs.2.39 crores for a normal LHB AC 3 Tier coach, the Ministry official said. The two trains that would be inaugurated by the Minister include Tirupati to Jammu Tawi and Howrah to Vijaywada. The other coaches include Gorakhpur to Anand Vihar, Kamakhya to Bangalore Cantt, Howrah to Yesvantpur, Sriganganagar to Tiruchchirapalli, Durg to Nizamuddin, and Ahmedabad to Chennai Central. These trains would run with a composition of 16 AC 3 Tier coaches and 2 Power cars. (UNI)
