Sushma asks Sharif to stop dreaming of Kashmir, calls to isolate Pakistan
, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 (12:04 IST)
United Nations: Asserting that Kashmir will always remain an integral part of India, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today asked Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to stop dreaming about snatching India's territory and called upon the world community to isolate and designate the country which was producing and exporting terrorism.

In a hard-hitting address from the dais of United Nations General Assembly, Ms Swaraj sought to demolish Mr Sharif's allegations of human rights violations in Kashmir, saying terrorism harboured by Pakistan was itself a greatest violation of human rights as it target the innocent. "If a country has become habitual of harbouring terrorism, it should be isolated and have no place in the league of nations," said Ms Swaraj, who spoke in chaste Hindi.

Rajnath Singh congratulates Sushma Swaraj for hard-hitting reply against Pak

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today expressed honour to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s reply against Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s rant on Kashmir earlier at the United Nations. Sushma said that India had attempted a paradigm of friendship without any precedent. In a tweet, he congratulated EAM Sushma Swaraj for her balanced, hard hitting and be-fitting reply to Pakistan. Argumentatively and impressive, influential prepotent speech that she delivered in UNGA.

Meanwhile MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has congratulated EAM for laying a strong pitch for the world to unite together to fight against terrorism. In a tweet, he said, “Congratulations Sushma Swaraj ji for a strong pitch for the world to unite against terror.” He said that Sushma Swaraj has conveyed the entire world that terrorism was not accepted by any country worldwide and the countries supporting those terrorists should be isolated unanimously.

Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu also congratulated her in a tweet saying, “We should feel extremely proud of our External Affairs Minister.” He said that Sushma has put forth a India’s point of view and exposing Pakistan’s evil designs in such a brilliant manner.

Valiant effort by Sushma but no concrete actions by NDA to strengthen her :Cong

While terming the speech by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the United Nations General assembly a 'valiant effort', the Congress today, however, said lack of concrete actions by the Narendra Modi government even nine days after the terrorist attack in Uri had only served to weaken her position at the UN.

Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said,'' Whenever an Indian representative speaks on foreign soil, it's not the time for politics. The entire country stands behind him or her. The whole country is with Sushma Swaraj. She made a valiant effort. However, domestic concrete actions by the government are not behind her to strengthen her. Had Sushma gone to UN on the tenth day of the Uri attack with certain concrete steps taken by the government instead of the PM's address at Kerala,Cabinet meet and Jumlas, her position would have been stronger. ''

''They have not called a Parliament session to declare Pakistan a terrorist state. They have not done anything to withdraw the MFN status to Pakistan. They have not imposed severe economic sanctions against Pakistan nor has there been a scaling down of high commissions. They have not done anything on ground for concrete actions, some efforts to isolate Pakistan globally but that's not enough. This had to be done before we reached UN.

Then our case would have resonated better, that's our unfulfilled aspirations.'' Earlier in a statement, AICC media in charge Randeep Surjewala termed the speech by External Affairs Minister 'disappointing'. He charged her of shying away from calling Pakistan a 'terror state' and said the Modi Government had again failed people by its meek response.

Pakistan denounces Sushma's UNGA address as "litany of falsehood"

Hours after Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj fired a broadside at Pakistan in her address to the UN General Assembly last evening, Islamabad, exercising its right of reply, denounced her speech as a ‘litany of falsehoods’ and ‘travesty of facts and history’.

“We [Pakistan] reject all the baseless allegations made in that statement. Her [Sushma’s] statement is a litany of falsehoods about Pakistan and a travesty of facts and history,” The Express Tribune today quoted from the reply presented by the Pakistani delegation at the UNGA. “It only reflects the deceit and hostility of her government towards Pakistan… [and] is designed principally to deflect global attention from the brutalities being perpetrated by India’s over half a million occupation forces against innocent and unarmed Kashmiri s,” the official statement read.

Responding directly to Ms Swaraj's assertion that Kashmir is an integral part of India, the Pakistani delegation said,“Jammu and Kashmir never was and can never be an integral part of India..,..It is a disputed territory, the final status of which has yet to be determined in accordance with several resolutions of the UN Security Council(UNSC).” The statement pointed out that the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination was promised to them by UNSC and India and Pakistan.(UNI)
