Chennai: Police have cracked yesterday's robbery at Tiruvanmiyur MRTS station reservation counter with arrest of Railway Commercial clerk and his wife for stage-managing the incident.

The alleged robbery took place in daring day light when an unidentified person tied up Commercial clerk Tikkaram Meena, who was on duty at the reservation counter, and decamped with Rs 1.30 lakh cash.

Though there was no CCTV camera in the Railway station, Police, after verifying the CCTV footages from the area, arrested Tikkaram, a native of Rajasthan, and his wife Saraswathi, on Tuesday.

Police grew suspicious after CCTV footages revealed that Saraswathi was seen entering the station at the time of the robbery. They questioned the duo and Tikkaram confessed to the crime.

Interrogations revealed that she was the one who tied her husband, working in Southern Railway for the last five years, at the counter and locked the gate and left for home at Urapakkam with Rs 1.30 lakh.

Tikkaram had borrowed a total Rs 2.50 lakh from his colleagues and friends to play online games and suffered losses. The couple enacted a drama to steal money to settle his financial problems.

As per the plan, she boarded an autorickshaw from Urapakkam and got down from it in one of the bylanes near Tidel Park. She walked to the Railway station, met her husband in his room at the station and tied him with a rope. She then took the bag containing Rs 1.32 lakh which he had kept ready, walked back to the same autorickshaw and returned home. (UNI)
