Erode: A 30-year-old makna (tuskless male elephant) died of electrocution at Jerahalli Forest Range in Hasanur Division in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR), in this district of Tamil Nadu on Monday.

When it tried to enter the land, the tusker came into contact with an electric fence erected by one farmer, James, to protect his potato crops from wild animals.

The carcass of the elephant was found by the locals who alerted the forest officials.

Senior forest department officials visited the spot and held an inquest. (UNI)
