Agartala: A minor boy has been undergoing treatment in Gomati district hospital with sustained serious injuries following his father attacked him with a sharp cutter on Tuesday at Jatanbari Shanti Colony under Nutanbazar Police Station of Amarpur.

Police registered a case against the accused father Haripada Sarkar, a habitual drinker but not arrested him. Police said accused Sarkar used to create trouble after returning home in the evening. He was in the habit of threatening everybody including neghibours with a sharp-cutting weapon if anyone objected.

Like previous days, after returning home on Tuesday, Sarkar created an unholy atmosphere in the house. When his wife objected to the nuisance, he attacked her with a sharp cutter but it slipped the attempt and fell on his son Subham. The injured Subham Sarkar was taken to Nutanbazar Hospital from where the Doctors referred him to District Hospital as the injury was serious.

The injury was serious in nature and had to be ten stitches, police added.

In a separate incident, Agartala City Police recovered the body of one Tirthankar Dasgupta on Tuesday night inside his rented house in Joynagar area of the city. However, his mother who stayed with Tirthankar has been absconding. Police have not yet been able to make any breakthrough although they suspected he was murdered.

The house owner informed police after getting a sticky smell from the flat, which was found locked from the outside for last three days. Police found the body near a bed with little injuries in the hands and some blood stains on the floor. But the deceased mother Namita Dasgupta (70) was traceless.

In another incident of murder, Gomati district police launched a massive manhunt after a 60-year-old man was killed after he intervened in a heated argument between two youths over auto driving at Agriculture Chowmuhani of Udaipur on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Rajab Ali, a resident of Gokulpur.

According to sources, the incident occurred in the evening when Akhtar Hossain, an auto driver from Gokulpur, had a dispute with Kalu Saha, another auto driver over the right of way. The altercation soon turned violent as Kalu and his friend Balai Das attacked Akhtar with sticks.
Rajab Ali, Akhtar’s uncle, rushed to the spot after hearing about the scuffle and tried to pacify the warring parties.

Allegedly, he was pushed to the ground and brutally assaulted by Kalu and Balai. They allegedly kicked him in his private parts, causing him to collapse on the spot. Local people shifted Ali to Gomati District Hospital, where he was declared dead. (Inputs from UNI)
