A middle-aged father has been convicted and sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on Tuesday for committing rape on his 4-year-old daughter in January 2019 at Rachi Para locality under Kamalpur Police Station in Tripura’s Dhalai district.

The Special Judge in Dhalai district court, Suryadeo Singh, convicted the accused, Rajkumar Bhar, under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Bhar was 30 years old when he committed the crime on the night of January 22, 2019, raping her minor daughter in his house, taking advantage of the absence of his wife.

The police report said the victim’s mother had gone to her parental home, leaving her two minor children, including the victim, with their father. The convict raped her daughter when she was sleeping with her brother at midnight. The next day, when her mother returned, she found the daughter injured, but the accused wasn't able to explain the reason for her illness.

The mother immediately rushed to the police and lodged a complaint against her husband. Based on the medical report and statement of the victim, police arrested Rajkumar. The police submitted a number of pieces of evidence about the crime to the court, apart from the confession of the convict, based on which the court awarded him imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights has initiated an investigation into the horrifying rape of a 9-year-old girl by her neighbour, a 17-year-old boy, in the Bishalgarh police station area two days ago. He took advantage of the absence of family members and perpetrated the rape on Monday afternoon.

Upon the parents' return from work, the victim disclosed the traumatic ordeal to the mother, and a complaint was lodged. At night, police arrested the accused, but the juvenile court granted him bail as police couldn’t produce the victim’s medical report.

According to police, the ordeal took a distressing turn when the duty doctor at the hospital, identified as Dr Real Majumdar, allegedly subjected the minor girl to intimidation and fear during the examination and was reluctant to undergo the medical test.

The Bishalgarh Women's Police Station submitted a written report to the Bishalgarh SDM regarding the doctor's behaviour and local people organised a protest since Tuesday night in Bishalgarh Sub Divisional Hospital seeking action against the accused doctor.(UNI)<>
