New Delhi: BJP on Monday insisted that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should clarify why the city government has not granted 'permission' to prosecute those who raised anti-India and seditious slogans in JNU in 2016.
"They (law enforcement agencies) sought Kejriwal's permission to prosecute this tukde tukde gang but one year later, till yesterday, no permission was granted. Kejriwal must tell Delhi why is he supporting those who want to break India?," BJP president J P Nadda said in a tweet.

"Is it because acting against these anti-nationals will hurt his (Kejriwal's) vote bank?" he wondered.

"Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and other anti-India forces raised seditious slogans like 'Bharat tere tukde honge' in JNU. They were threatening to violate India's sovereignty. Law enforcement agencies moved in, investigated the matter and in Jan 2019 were ready to file chargesheet," he wrote in another missive.

The BJP has often raised the issue of the AAP government's alleged reluctance to grant permission to Delhi police to prosecute the accused in the 'sedition case'.

Speaking at a press conference last year, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said the city government has not taken any decision on the matters related to prosecution sanction against JNU Students' Union leaders Umar Khalid and Kanhaiya Kumar and others in the 2016 case.(UNI)
