Two militants killed in south Kashmir encounter

Srinagar: Two militants were reportedly killed in a fierce encounter by security forces in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, official sources said here today. They said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a search operation in Nagbal Frisal village of Kulgam district, late last night.
 

However, when the security forces were sealing the area and moving towards a particular area in the village, militants opened fire, they said, adding the fire was retaliated ensuing an encounter. To avoid any civilian casualty security forces stopped the operation due to darkness only to resume again with the first light this morning. When the security forces tried to storm the area, militants opened fire again, they said, adding the fire was again returned.

Two militants were reportedly killed so far, they said adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in. Further details are awaited. Meanwhile, additional security forces and state police personnel were rushed to the area to prevent any protests by locals. (UNI)
