Srinagar: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and other Sikh organisations on Monday demanded immediate release of two girls of the community allegedly kidnapped in Srinagar recently.

President of DSGMC Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who called on J&K Union Territory (UT) Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday and highlighted the issues confronting the community, said the relations between the members of Muslim and Sikhs always remained cordial. However, he said, such incidents cause mistrust among the communities.

He said abduction of two sikh girls was not only shocking but against the peaceful co-existence.

He highlighted how the members of Sikh community organised langars during 2014 floods in the Kashmir valley besides helping Kashmiri girls who were held up in different parts of the country when COVID-19 lock down was imposed in the country.

Mr Sirsa said our only demand is to return the girls to their parents to end the matter.

However, he said members of the Sikh are pained as people and leaders of the majority communities remained silent so far.

Meanwhile, taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, former CM Mehbooba said “Disturbed to hear reports about the incident involving two Sikh girls in Kashmir. Muslims & Sikhs in J&K have co-existed peacefully in the worst of times. Hope the investigative agencies swiftly get to the bottom of this issue”.

Mufti Islam said Sikh brethren are part and parcel of Kashmiri society and reports of forcible conversion of two Sikh girls at gun point has no place in Islam.

Meanwhile, protests by the members of the Sikh community continued at several places in the Kashmir valley for the past few days against these incidents. (UNI)
