Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad's son Asad and shooter Ghulam Muslim, both wanted in the lawyer Umesh Pal murder case, was on Thursday killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi.
Both Asad and Ghulam were carrying a reward of Rupees 5 Lakh each.
Sophisticated foreign-made weapons were recovered from both the slain accused.
It may be noted that the police had arrested Dr. Akhlaq, husband of Atiq's sister Ayesha Noori and sent him to jail.
Police sources said that the STF got information that shooter Guddu Muslim stayed at the residence of Dr Akhlaq in Meerut. The STF got evidence of this from CCTV footage after which it arrested Dr Akhlaq.
It may be mentioned that Umesh Pal and his two gunners were shot dead on February 24. Atique, his wife, brother, two sons and accomplices were named in the matter.
