UP: 5 of family attempt self-immolation near CM office

Lucknow: Timely interception by police saved five members of a family who tried to immolate themselves outside the Lok Bhawan, the office of Chief Minister, here on Friday.

All the five members, who are the native of Dhunnupurwa village in the adjoining Hardoi district, were trying to commit mass suicide, alleging that their house was grabbed by a couple, but no action was taken in their complaint.

Police here said that the incident occurred at 1030 hrs when all the five family members were spotted when they were pouring kerosene on their body.

The family members were identified as Umesh Yadav, Rajaram, Veeru Yadav, Usha Devi and Maya. All have been detained by the police.

The family alleged that one Sishir Verma and his wife Kamani have grabbed their house in the village in which they were living for the past over 4 decades. They further alleged that the local police and revenue department officials were not helping them, which forced them to take such an extreme step. (UNI)
