Lucknow: Even as the political parties are waiting eagerly for the Assembly poll results and the Election Commission was making preparation for the counting of votes on Saturday next, the Uttar Pradesh Election Commission is preparing itself for the Herculean task of holding the Urban Local Bodies Election in the next four months time. SEC, an institution of the UP government, has already started making preparatory arrangements like delimitation of the local bodies and their wards, along with other nitty-gritties.
State Chief Election Commissioner S K Agarwal said here today that introductory preparation has started and in the next couple of months, it would be completed. "As there are several new local bodies this time hence, boundary and other things would have to be done there," Mr Agarwal said. The notification for the urban local bodies could be issued in May or June this year.
The last elections were held in June and July, with notification being issued in May.
However, this time, there is an increase in 27 local bodies, including two corporations of Saharanpur and Ferozabad. There are 661 local bodies, where elections would be held this time, including 14 corporations. Last time, there were 634 local bodies, including 12 corporation, 195 Pallika Parishads and 427 Nagar Panchayats. (UNI)
