Sonbhadra: A woman police constable sustained serious burn injuries as she attempted to immolate herself in Robertsganj area of Sonbhadra district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Saturday.
The sources said Deepa Yadav,s posted in Robertsganj police line, lives in a room in Churk area along with her mother. "It is being said that Deepa is having a dispute with her husband Akhilesh Yadav, who is also a police constable and is posted in Unnao district, for several years. She had lodged a complaint against her husband," they said.
The sources said Deepa had a dispute with Akhilesh over phone late on Friday night after which she attempted to commit suicide by immolating herself and sustained serious burn injuries. "Deepa's mother admitted her to the district hospital from where she was referred to Varanasi in a serious condition," they said.
Police sources said the woman constable's mother told the police that Akhilesh was having some video of Deepa and he used to threaten to make it viral. After getting fed up of such threats she took this step. Circle Officer (CO) Rahul Mishra and Station House Officer (SHO) Bal Mukund Mishra reached the spot after the incident and informed the senior officers.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalu Singh said the woman constable was having a dispute with her husband and she had filed a divorce case against him. "Though they patched up later, the dispute was not settling down. She has sustained 40 to 50 per cent burn injuries and has been referred to Varanasi," he said.The ASP said the matter is being investigated by the police and further action will be taken once a complaint is received.(UNI)
