Mathura (UP): Five people were charred to death after a car caught fire after colliding with a private bus in the Mahaban area of Mathura district here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, a senior police officer said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shailesh Kumar Pandey said that the incident took place on the Yamuna Expressway when the Delhi-bound double-decker bus from Agra collided with the car in the morning. "Both vehicles caught fire after the collision. While 40 passengers on the bus came out safely, the car passengers were charred to death," he said.
Police sources said that District Magistrate (DM) Shailendra Singh and SSP Shailesh Pandey reached the spot and issued the necessary directives to the officers concerned. "Fire tenders were summoned on the spot that controlled the fire," they said.
Police sources said that efforts were being maintained to ascertain the identity of the deceased. "Prima facie, it seems that all the deceased are male. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination," they said.
