Pratapgarh: A 21-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by a jilted lover in Antu area of Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said on Wednesday.
The sources here said that Shalu Verma, a resident of Raghena village left her house on Tuesday evening and was missing after that.
"On Wednesday morning Shalu's body was recovered a few meters away from her house," they said.
The sources also said that Shalu was having an affair with Jai Chanda Verma, but in between her marriage was fixed with another person. "Her engagement was scheduled to be held on Wednesday. Shalu's family has accused Jai Chanda of the murder," they said.
Inspector Jitendra Singh said that on the complaint of Shalu's brother Santosh Verma a case of murder has been lodged against Jai Chanda. "The accused is absconding after the incident and efforts are being made to nab him," he said.
