Barabanki (UP): A man attempted to immolate himself at the collectorate office allegedly after failing to receive the second instalment under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna in Barabanki district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said here.
Police sources said that a house was allotted to Zahida Khatoon, a resident of Deeh Ashokpur village in Ramnagar area, under PM Awas Yojna. "The allottee received an amount of Rs 40,000 as the first installment in September last year with the construction work carried out," they said.
Police sources said that it has been alleged that Zahida's husband Zubair was making round of the officers for geo-tagging of his house so that the second installment could be issued. "Zubair has alleged that Panchayat Secretary Beena Kumari was demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 for releasing the second installment," they said.
Police sources said that on Wednesday Zubair attempted to immolate himself during Janata Darshan. "The security personnel doused the flames after which Zubair was admitted to the district hospital," they said.
District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar said that Zubair attempted to immolate himself during Janata Janata Darshan. He said that during inquiry it was revealed that a house was allotted in the name of Zubair's wife Zahida Khatoon.
He said that as the house was being constructed on the government land the second installation was withheld. He said that an e-lease of the plot after changing its land use was being provided to the victim along with the ration and Ayushman cards.
The CM said that the Panchayat secretary has been suspended following allegations of the victim and an FIR was also being lodged on his complaint.
