Prayagraj: A patient died in a private hospital here after being administered sweet lime juice instead of platelets, forcing the Uttar Pradesh Health Department to seal the hospital and arrest three of its employees, police said on Friday.
A police case has been registered at the George Town police station, an officer said.
Police sources said Pradeep Pandey was admitted to the Global Hospital and Trauma Center in Jhalwa area on October 14 following a complaint of dengue.
"It is alleged that instead of transfusing plasma platelets Pandey was administered mosambi juice. When his condition deteriorated on October 17, he was shifted to another hospital where doctors declared him dead," said a police officer.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who holds charge of the Medical and Health Department, has taken a serious view of the incident.
"The hospital has been sealed immediately and the platelets packet has been sent for testing," he tweeted.
The Minister warned that that stern action will be taken against the hospital if found guilty. (UNI)
