Auraiya (UP): Eight persons were arrested by the police on Monday for the kidnapping and murder of an 11-year-old boy from the Airwa Katra area of Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Charu Nigam said Shubaan, son of a jeweller Shakeel, left his house on Saturday afternoon to play with his friends but did not return till late night. "The family members informed the police after which a case was lodged," she said.

She said the family members raised suspicion that their neighbour Riyaz Siddiqui alias Munna along with his aides had kidnapped Subhaan.

"Acting on the information the police tracked the mobile phones of the accused and their location was traced in the National Capital Region (NCR)," she said.

The SP said that while coordinating with the Delhi police the team nabbed one of the accused Awadhesh Mishra, who revealed that the boy was in a vehicle with Deepak Gupta, Jatin Diwakar and Ravi Nihal.

"On the identification of the accused a trolley bag was recovered from a vehicle from which the body of Subhaan was recovered," she said.

She said the arrested accused were brought to Umrain where they were asked to call the other accused to collect the ransom.

"When Riyaz Siddiqui, Ashish, Ankit and Shobhan Yadav reached the spot they opened fire after seeing the police vehicles. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused arrested from Delhi also attempted to flee," she said.

The SP said that in retaliatory firing all the eight accused sustained bullet injuries in their legs and were arrested. "The arrested accused were taken to the hospital from where they were referred to the higher centre," she said.
