NEW DELHI: Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and MLA from Kalkaji constituency presented the Vaccination Bulletin in a video address on Sunday. Atishi highlighted that vaccination is the only way to stop the spread in second wave of COVID-19 and the third impending wave, in Delhi and the entire country, and protect ourselves from the detrimental virus.
Atishi further mentioned that 4.65 lakhs are available in Delhi for over 45 years of age and 2.74 lakh doses for youth between 18-45 years old, the Central Government should provide vaccines to Delhi as soon as possible. She further added that Delhi has received a total of approximately 43 lakh doses for people above 45 years of age, health care workers and frontline workers and 5.50 lakh vaccines for those between 18-45 years of age. So far, 38,96,551 vaccines have been inoculated to the people of Delhi, out of which 30,35,279 people have been given the first and 8.61 lakh people have received the second dose.
She stated that Delhi has 470 vaccination sites for people above 45 years of age, 394 vaccination sites for youth between 18-45 years. She added that Vaccination is the only way to stop the spread in second wave of COVID-19 and the third impending wave, in Delhi and the entire country.
Atishi said, “The danger and havoc wreaked by the second wave has been witnessed in the entire country. Not only is the infectivity rate extremely high in this wave, but also, a number of patients are getting serious and are in need of hospitalisation for ICU and Ventilator beds. Hence, the most important thing that can further stop the spread of this wave, and reduce the chances of an impending third wave, is vaccination. Vaccination is the only way through which the people of Delhi and all the citizens of India can prevent themselves from contracting the COVID-19 virus. A study published in an International Journal declares that the patients who have been vaccinated, but still test positive for COVID-19, of those individuals, less than 1% would be critical or would need hospitalisation in ICU or Ventilator beds. This study substantiates that vaccination is the only way out of the virus for all Indians and the people of Delhi.”
Atishi, while further elaborating upon the need for vaccination, highlighted, “Today, Delhi is conducting the vaccination drive at a large-scale. There are two kinds of vaccination programs that are being run: one, for those above 45 years of age, healthcare and frontline workers, and two, for those above 18 years of age, who are getting inoculated at the government schools of Delhi. Those above 45, and healthcare/frontline workers, are getting jabbed in various hospitals and dispensaries of the national capital.”
Atishi presented a series of numbers with respect to vaccination, and stated, “Let me present in front of you a series of figures around the number of people who have been vaccinated, the number of people who are yet to be inoculated, and the number of doses that are available in Delhi. This will be a part of the Vaccination Bulletin that I will be presenting everyday at 5 PM. The total number of doses we need for the people of Delhi is 1.34 Crores. Today, the number of doses we have for those between 18-45 years of age, for Covaxin are 1.5 lakh, and Covishield are 4 lakh.
So, in total, for those between 18-45, Delhi has been given 5,50,000 doses. Moreover, for frontline/healthcare workers, and above 45 years of age, we have received 13,91,800 doses of Covaxin, and of Covishield, we have got 29,28,690 doses. So the total of doses for those above 45 and healthcare/frontline workers comes as 43,20,490 doses. On May 8, we vaccinated 1,28,441 people, who come in all these categories (healthcare/frontline workers, above 45 years, and 18-45 years of age). Until now, the total number of doses administered in Delhi, are 38,96,551. Here are the further figures:
Atishi further added, “The vaccination for those above 45 years of age and frontline workers is being run in 470 sites, which is inclusive of hospitals and dispensaries. For 18-45 years of age, the vaccination is being done at 394 centres, which is in 96 government schools. These are all the numbers till now.”
Atishi further cited the availability of vaccine stock in Delhi. She stated, “If we see those above 45 plus and frontline workers category, we have 2,23,000 doses of Covaxin and 2,43,000 of Covishield. So in total for this category, we have 4,65,000 vaccines available. And for the 18-45 age group, we have 47,080 doses of Covaxin, of Covishield we have 2,26,480 available. So, in total, for this category we have 2,74,460 of vaccines with us today.”
Atishi lastly highlighted, “Since it has been made clear that Delhi is conducting mass vaccination on a large-scale, everyday more than 1,00,000 people are getting jabbed, so the pace at which the inoculation is happening, we hope and we believe that we can vaccinate the entire population in 3 months. Hence, we hope that the central government will increase stocks and supply them to the Delhi government. And hence, at the earliest, we will be able to inoculate and protect the people of Delhi.”
