WB BJP unit meets Rajnath; demands immediate intervention
, Thursday, 5 January 2017 (18:40 IST)
NewDelhi: West Bengal unit of the BJP today met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demanded his immediate intervention to arrest what they called deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Angered over the alleged attack on the BJP leaders in Kolkata and other parts of the state by Trinamool Congress leaders, the delegation said immediate measures were required to arrest the situation in which "fundamental rights of the people of West Bengal have been breached with impunity, while the state administrative machinery was kept ineffective under political pressure".

The delegation members told the Home Minister that their party office in Kolkata was sieged and violently attacked by "thousands of Trinamool goons leaving many of the workers injured, while several Trinamool leaders were seen encouraging the goondas". They also said the immediate past president of Hoogly district committee Krishna Bhattacharya was brutally assaulted by Trinamool mob following which she was now in the ICU.

They also told the Home Minister about the siege of house of Union Minister of State Babul Supriyo stating that this lawlessness seemingly arose from the arrest of Trinamool's Sudip Bandyopadhyay by the CBI in the chit fund scam. The BJP delegation said it was unfortunate that the state government was instead of protecting law was violating it. Such a situation in the state warrants immediate review of law and order by the Centre. (UNI)
