New Delhi: Parents of Nirbhaya today expressed happiness over the Supreme Court sentencing death to her daughter’s rapists, upholding the High court's order. Mother Asha Devi listened with teary eyes to the judges pronouncing the sentence four years after the heinous crime took place on the night of December 16, 2012 in the national capital.
‘’I am happy that justice had finally been delivered,’’ she said talking to reporters at the SC premises. Father Badri Singh said, "It came late, but justice has finally been done and I am very happy". On the night of December 16, 2012, 23-year-old medico intern Nirbhaya was gangraped in a moving bus, and was then thrown away along with her male colleague. Welcoming the Supreme Court uphelding the death penalty to the accused in the Nirbhaya Gangrape case, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal today expressed happiness that the Supreme Court has lend strength to the fight by the ‘Nirbhayas’.

Kiran Bedi welcomes SC order in Nirbhaya case
Noted activist and Lt Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, today welcomed the Supreme Court order upholding the death sentence on the four accused of the December 16, 2012 gangrape. "This judgement will have justice value and also deterrent value," Ms Bedi told Television channel.
Answering questions, she said, "To my mind the judgement will have a deterrent value as the crime is still fresh in people's memories". "Others may argue the death sentence does not have deterrent value. But that does not mean you can leave the perpetrators go unpunished," she said. She welcomed the verdict ,saying death sentence on the offenders were on expected lines, especially "going by the magnitude of the crime".
Maneka welcomes Nirbhaya vedict, 'but should have come earlier'
Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death penalty to four accused in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi reacted saying 'I'm very happy the (lower court) verdict has been upheld, though it should have come earlier.' She went on to add that going by Indian legal standards, the judgement had been delivered 'much sooner' as she recounted the instance of a case being decided after 35 years.
Asked by reporters about the long-drawn process in delivering justice to the aggrieved parents of Nirbhaya, she said it was 'for the Law Minister and courts' to have expedited the process. The apex court today upheld death sentences against the four accused in the Nirbhaya gangrape case on board a bus in December 16, 2012, which had caused huge public outrage to violence against women.
Brinda Karat welcomes Nirbhaya verdict

Priyanka Chaturvedi , says Justice served in Nirbhaya’s case
Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict to upheld the death sentence to the four convicts in the Nirbhaya Gangrape Case, the Congress today said that justice had finally been served in the case. Reacting to the apex court judgement, Congress leader Sharmishtha Mukherjee said, "finally justice has been given in the Nirbhaya Case. But what about Bilkis Bano? We should fight for harshest punishment for those beasts who raped and killed her.’’ ‘’Punishment after crime is absolutely necessary. But more important is prevention of such crimes.
