Bapatla (Andhra Pradesh): In a shocking incident, a woman was gangraped by three persons after allegedly beating her husband in Repalle Railway station in this district in the wee hours of Sunday.
Police said that the woman, along with her husband, was going to Nagayalanka to work in agriculture fields. They belong to Yerragondapalem in Prakasam district. The couple alighted a train in Repalle railway station and slept on the platform to go to Nagayalanka in the morning.
Three men allegedly beaten up her husband, took the woman to some distance forcibly and gang-raped in the Railway platform itself. After the woman was gang-raped, they snatched money from them and fled the scene. The victim was admitted to the government hospital in Repalle for medical examination.
Baptla Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal visited the scene of the offence. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke with the Bapatla SP and directed him to arrest the accused at the earliest.
Health Minister Vidadala Rajini described the gangrape of the woman as unfortunate and condemned it. She said she had spoken with Jindal and directed him to take steps to ensure that such incident do not recur in the future, adding the condition of the rape victim is stable.
Jagan Mohan Reddy asked her to console the victim and her family, the Minister said.
Repalle MLA Anagani Satya Prasad alleged that the husband of the rape victim went to the police station to lodge a complaint but the police did not respond properly. The government had limited itself for publicity, he slammed.
CPI state secretary alleged that Home Minister Taneti Vanita has become a namesake home minister as Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy had taken control of the home department.
The police are only focusing on how to obstruct the programmes of opposition party leaders, he alleged. (UNI)
