Woman judge duped of Rs 2.75 lakh by cyber crook posing as FAStag executive

Nagpur: A woman judge was duped of almost Rs 2.75 lakh by a cyber criminal posing as a FASTag executive.

Senior police officials told UNI on Thursday that the victim, Adhoc District Judge and Assistant Sessions Judge Sonali Mukund Kanakdande (42), sought to recharge the FAStag of her four-wheeler. She used her cellphone to look up the App on Google.

She recharged the FAStag using her debit card. She then used net banking to open her account and discovered that her password and user ID had been stolen.

Making an inquiry to the customer care executive of her bank, she was shocked to hear that Rs 2,75, 399 were siphoned off. The fraud took place between May 14 and May 15.
A complaint was registered at Sitabuldi Police station under Section 420, 419 of the Indian Penal Code, with Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act and probe started. (UNI)
