Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today supported the common civil code in the country while attacking the political parties and others who are mum on the triple talaq issue. ''When there is one nation theory then why there should be different codes. Nation is most important for us rather than other issues,'' he said while quoting that former Prime Minister late Chandrashekhar also supported the issue of common civil code. This was probably for the first time that any BJP leader on a constitutional post has supported Common Civil Code in public.
The Chief Minister, who released book on the speeches of Chandrashekar in Parliament after paying tribute to him on his 91st birthday here at the state Assembly premises, said, ''every institution should work and they should think of the nation first.'' ''We should leave negativity and go for positive thinking, and media along with other institutions should help the country to become an one nation,'' he added. Lambasting the political parties and others for keeping mum on the triple talaq issue, the Chief Minister said, ''these people are equally responsible for the harassment of the Muslim women.'' Giving an example, the Chief Minister said, ''after draupudi cheerharan incident in Mahabharat, she asked who was responsible and only Vidur replied by saying one-third were the persons who did it, one-third, those who supported it and rest one-third who were mum during the incident.''
Highlighting the life of Chandraskhekhar, Mr Adityanath said, ''he was above vote politics and a true socialist, who never promoted his family during his political career.” ''Chandrashekhar, had to go to jail during emergency even after being in Congress for opposing Indira Gandhi and always supported the 'Swadeshi movement'. ''He was a real nationalist leader who had always said that Kashmir is an integral part of the country besides had never hitched in speaking the truth whether in the public life or in Parliament.'' Referring to an incident in which his guru Maharaj late Avaidnath had once said that Chandrashekhar was an atheist on his comment over the disputed structure in Ayodhya, Mr Adityanath said, ''Chandraskharjee was very upset on such comment by Maharaj and even showed him that he had set up a temple and believes in God and Goddess.'' UP Assembly Speaker Hridya Narain Dikshit paying his tribute to the leader claimed that though his tenure was very short but still he was one of the popular Prime Minister of the country.
''Chandrashekhar was a simple person and his honest statements on every issue made his personality further great,'' Mr Dikshit claimed. Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, in his address said that people differ on the statements made by Chandrashekhar. ''His honest words made him critical among several people who did’nt like it but several others praised him,'' he said. The programme was organised by Chandrashekhar Smarak trust which is run by Samajwadi Party MLC Yashwant Singh. The book titled 'Sansad me do tuk' was edited by one Dhirendra Srivastava. (UNI)
