Indore: The city of the Holkars, Indore faces a daunting task to retain its numero uno position in the cleanliness ranking this year. It is to be noted that Indore was declared as the cleanest city in the cleanliness survey conducted for the year 2016-2017,  thanks to the relentless work done by Indore municipal corporation.

However, this year will not be a cakewalk for Indore as the other cities are also fighting tooth and nail for the top spot. Here are the five cities which pose a threat to the number one rank of Indore.

1) Bhopal, MP

The lake city Bhopal, which is situated near to Indore is also very close to the cleanliness standard set by the city. Both the cities are situated in Madhya Pradesh. The citizens of MP also believe that Bhopal is much greener than Indore, thus the neighbor city can give a tough challenge to Indore. Not to forget Bhopal was ranked second cleanest city last year.

2) Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

The capital of Andhra Pradesh, Vishakhapatnam is a beautiful city. Situated on the bay of Bengal this is a port city. The city has a lot of temples and beaches and the administration has maintained cleanliness around the public places. The city was ranked third in the cleanliness survey last year.

3) Surat, Gujarat

One of the commercial city of Gujarat, Surat has also worked hard to maintain hygiene in the city. The city was in the news during the recently concluded elections. Last year Surat was placed at the fourth spot, Let's see where the city ends in the survey of this year.

4) Mysore, Karnataka

Mysore, a city which is quite rich in the cultural heritage has also put more efforts in maintaining cleanliness. Last year Mysore, was placed at fifth spot and if sources are to be believed Mysore, will surely improve its ranking this year.

5) Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu

It looks like South Indian cities are quite ahead than north Indian cities in cleanliness, as it is the third one in the top 5 contenders. Also known as Trichy this city has also laid emphasis on cleanliness on public places. However It may prove less hostile for Indore like other mentioned cities in the upcoming cleanliness survey.
