New Delhi: Speculations are rife that selectors are in a mood to rest the two big pillars of Indian cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli ahead of the selection meeting scheduled on Sunday. The Men in blue are set to play 3 ODIs and 2 T20s on Caribbean land in the next month.
MS Dhoni has given more time to ponder on his retirement to his fans and critics after he declared himself unavailable for the west indies tour. Ever since he was run out by Martin Guptill in the semi-final of CWC 19, every cricket enthusiast was expecting Mahi to hang his boot. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman has kept his cards close to the chest since 10th July.
Virat Kohli’s captaincy is under scanner after a few on-field decision in the world cup. Few selectors are thinking of split captaincy between Virat and Rohit for Tests and ODIs respectively. If the selectors rest Virat Kohli for west indies tour, surely Opener Rohit Sharma will get another chance to lead the team. Earlier, India won a few tournaments under Rohit’s captaincy which includes Asia cup 2018 and Niddahas Trophy (T-20 tournament).
In the absence of the big names, young guns are expected to make a place in the Indian squad. Especially, on number 4 there will be a lot of candidates on which the board will do brainstorming. BCCI may even experiment by sending one newbie pacer to west indies by dropping Bumrah or Bhuvi.(WD)
