Mumbai: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out of remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The right-hand batter was ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury in the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, against whom he had scored 28 off 24 balls with the help of three sixes. During this knock, Rahane was struggling to even run a single.

He was down with a hamstring injury and the physio had to rush on to the field to attend to him. Despite the injury, Rahane continued batting and was dismissed by Umran Malik in the eighth over.

This season has played seven matches and scored only 133 runs with an average of only 19 and strike rate 103.90. Rahane scored 44 in the first match of the season.

However, in the next four matches, he could not cross the figure of 15 runs even once. As a result, he was dropped from the team and Kolkata tested four different starting pairs.

With no success, Rahane was reinstated in the playing XI. Kolkata kept their hopes of making it to the playoffs alive by beating Hyderabad. However, for that they have to win their last match and at the same time the results of other teams go in their favor.

Earlier, team's star fast bowler Pat Cummins was ruled out of IPL 2022 due to a hip injury.

Kolkata's last league match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai wherein they will face Lucknow Super Giants. (UNI)
