London: England fast bowler James Anderson on Tuesday was ruled out of the second Ashes Test match against Australia due to a calf injury.
Anderson bowled just four overs during Australia's first innings in the first match of the series and came to bat at No 11 in both the innings. The pacer went for an MRI scan after the match which confirmed a calf injury, ECB's official website said.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said Anderson's chances of playing in the rest of the series would be reassessed on "an ongoing basis". He will undergo a rehabilitation programme with the England and Lancashire medical teams.
The right-armer came into the game under a cloud, having not played since June owing to an injury to the same calf, though he passed every fitness test required by the ECB.
England will play second Ashes Test match against Australia at Lord's on Wednesday, August 14.(UNI)
