Guwahati: The situation in Assam on Friday remained tense but under control with no fresh reports of violence reported in last 12 hours.
The indefinite curfew which was imposed two days back continued in capital town Guwahati, while five hours relaxation was given in Dibrugarh of Assam. However, the curfew continued in Guwahati, though the public came out in the morning to buy essential commodities. Army continued to stage flag march in sensitive areas of Guwahati.

The anti Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) protest led by influential All Assam Students Union (AASU) continued as the students body organised their twelve hour sit-in agitation in Chanmari field, here.

Notably, AASU stir against CAB is now getting support from various political factions. The protests in this north eastern state broke out after CAB that seeks to grant Indian citizenship to illegal Hindu, Parsi, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Christian migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, who had entered India prior to December 31, 2014, without any documents, was cleared by both Houses of the Parliament.

The people of North Eastern states, especially Assam and Tripura, are demanding its revocation as they fear being "overrun" by non-Muslims from neighbouring Bangladesh.(UNI)
